La Selva, part 2

Last week, the missionary men from Mission to the World took our second trip to the jungle. This time we took a different route, to the Manu Biosphere Reserve, touted as one of the last accessable areas of virgin rainforest. We saw many cool animals, such as macaws, parakeets, toucans, gallitos de la roca ("cocks of the rock"), blue morpho butterflies, and many we did not know the names of. Unfortunately, the animals were not as photogenic as the scenery, but here are a few pictures of our adventure...

Once again, beautiful scenery as we drove over mountains to reach the jungle.

Fun with mud, trucks, and the winch!

Camping and swimming on the banks of the "Madre de Dios" river. (To my tropical medicine friends: I don't want to hear it!)

Taking a "lancha" (large motorized canoe) to an area where we could hike some jungle trails.

Exploring the jungle.

Apparently ants make these...who knew?

No idea what these are...but they were cool!

A waterfall in the "cloud forest."
