Machu Picchu

This weekend we made a trip to Machu Picchu on Saturday and Sunday. What an incredible place!! Here we go...

There are two ways to get to Machu Picchu...by train or by the Inca Trail. Luke didn't seem up for the four day hike on the Inca Trail, so we opted for the train route. If anyone wants to come to Peru to babysit a really adorable little guy for a few days, Greg and I would like to hike the trail at some point while we're here. Let us know!

Luke and Chelse on the train...she has a special gift for making him giggle...very helpful on a four hour train ride!

Our first day was spent exploring the town of Aguas Calientes, where many visitors to Machu Picchu spend the night.

Since restaurants in Cusco don't have high chairs,
this was a big treat for Luke.

Discovery coffee...not to be confused with Starbucks coffee...yummm??

Here we are...Machu Picchu!!

Typical Incan terracing found in many ruins here.

Greg and I hiked up to "Watchman's Tower" for this amazing view of the ruins.
Machu Picchu

In case you need a history lesson, Machu Picchu or the "Lost City" are a group of ancient Incan ruins located high in the Andes Mountains of Peru. They were discovered in 1911 by American Historian, Henry Bingham, after being buried in the jungle of Peru for centuries. Due to their inaccessible location and vast expanse, the history of the ruins remain somewhat of a mystery today. They include temples, agricultural terracing, fountains, baths, workshops, living quarters and plazas. They are incredible!
